Mike Huckabee Burn-Books Mitt Romney

1227037352Let’s say you’ve just lost the presidential nomination of your party. You’ve invested your blood, sweat, and tears (not to mention large sums of other people’s money) in a months-long campaign. You’ve subsisted on diner breakfasts and lukewarm pepperoni pizza. Once the banners are folded up and you’ve given your concession, what do you do next?

If you’re Mitt Romney, you become a somewhat reluctant spokesman for the party’s nominee. If you’re Mike Huckabee, you go underground and write a book about how badly Romney sucks.

Well, that’s not all it’s about. But according to Time magazine, that’s the main topic of discussion in Huckabee’s latest tome, Do the Right Thing: Inside the Movement That’s Bringing Common Sense Back to America.

(Also: Hey, Mike? Spike Lee is going to be pissed that you stole the title of one of his joints. Sleep with one eye open.)

John Kerry: Self-Help Author?

1222178547As you may have heard, John Kerry has gone from an epic struggle to control the highest office in the land to actually having to campaign for a senate seat that was once considered a lock. The transition hasn’t been a smooth one, with the junior senator having his share of bad days on the stump.

Today’s Globe suggests that Kerry should take a cue from the losers who came before him and throw himself into a cause that gets him out of bed in the morning. The senator maintains his position in Washington is enough to keep him going, but we’ve got an idea for a side project.

The Presidential Loser’s Guide to Recovering from Loss by John F. Kerry. It’s a guaranteed best-seller!

Robert Frost: Party Animal

1212611291News broke yesterday that 28 teenagers responsible for wreaking drunken havoc on Robert Frost’s summer abode in Vermont finally received their punishment. They are to attend a couple of classes with Middlebury College professor Jay Parini, a Frost scholar and biographer, on the “redemptive power of poetry.”

But, what you didn’t know is that the great New England bard might have partied with the kids who trashed his place. We just exchanged emails with Parini. Frost, it seems, liked a stiff drink on occasion. (more…)

No Monkeying Around on the Campaign Trail

Back when we were in high school, the most controversial t-shirt that featured H.A. Rey’s cartoon monkey Curious George was the one where the little guy passes out after sniffing ether.

1210866324But, a bar owner in Georgia has lowered the discourse even further by placing the monkey’s image on a shirt that reads “Obama in ‘08.” Now the Boston-based publisher that owns the rights to the series of books is considering suing the redneck businessman.

Gov. Patrick Gets a Win

1206717821That was fast. Boston.com reports that Gov. Deval Patrick has scored a deal with Broadway Books. The governor’s autobiography will be released in 2010. Looks like that personal day in New York was worth it after all.

Dreams From New York

1206714977Gov. Deval Patrick said last month that he has no political ambition beyond being governor of the Commonwealth for the foreseeable future, even though he’s one of the most visible surrogates for presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

Not that anyone has ever used the governor’s office to try to jump to a national office or anything, but Patrick didn’t do much to quell the skepticism generated by his announcement by heading off to New York to shop his autobiography as House Speaker Sal DiMasi was savagely killing his casino proposal.

Former RI Sen. Linc Chafee Names Names

1201807787With the excitement of the presidential primaries building as the field of hopefuls in both parties shrinks, it’s easy to forget what this election means—an end to the administration of George W. Bush. Some expressed their frustration with Bush, and his party, by voting for Democrats in the 2006 elections. One of the senators who was swept out of office in this wave of anti-Republican sentiment was former Rhode Island Sen. Lincoln Chafee.

Nearly two years after he left office, Chafee has written a book. And if the rumors that are flying around the media are any indication, it’s going to be a damning tome for members of both parties.

For the Little Liberals in Your Life

1200077790We here at Boston Daily have had a lifelong love affair with reading. It began when our parents would read us Harry the Dirty Dog or The Cat in the Hat. Joining the ranks of these revered children’s classics is Why Mommy is a Democrat and Why Daddy is a Democrat.
