Q. What is the Cookout?
A. Boston magazine’s The Cookout is a multi-part program that features a voting campaign this spring that narrows down the city’s best bartenders and burger chefs, who face off on August 11 and 12 in a two night event featuring The Cue and Battle of the Burger.
Night 1: The Cue
This smoking hot event will be the first to bring BBQ to Boston on this scale. The Cue, our 2nd annual BBQ Classic will feature a select group of leading chefs in the Boston area, cooking tastes of their favorite BBQ dishes to a hungry audience, and showcasing what is hot and trendy in the world of BBQ.
Phase 1: Pre-Promotion
During the months of April, Boston magazine, will be inviting mixologists to sign up for the competition and chefs to sign up for the program.
Phase 2: Voting
Starting in May and running through the July 4th weekend, the public will vote for their favorite cocktail on bostonmagazine.com. All are invited to vote once a day and check the rankings in real time!
Phase 3: The Event
After voting ends in early July, the top 10 mixologists have one month to get ready to compete! The Cue takes place on August 11th, where 1,000 guests will be able to eat all the BBQ they can handle, sample the cocktails, and place their one vote for the best cocktail in Boston. At the end of the night, the winner is awarded the trophy, a profile in Boston magazine, and will be sent to a music festival in Texas.
Night 2: Battle of the Burger
Boston magazine will host the 4th annual Battle of the Burger in Boston. Leading up to the event, we invite the city of Boston to vote on bostonmagazine.com which chefs/restaurants have the best burger in town. The top 20 vote recipients are invited to compete at this one day event to see who comes out on top and head to an annual event in Miami. Guests will be able to sample burgers from the competitors and vote right there at the event. See photos from the 2014 event.

Starting in May and running through the July 4th weekend, the public will vote for the best burger on bostonmagazine.com. Participants are invited to vote once a day and check the rankings in real time! Plus, home grillers are invited to compete online for a chance to attend the Battle!
Phase 3: The Event: Things Heat Up!
Voting ends in early July and the top 20 voters have one month to get the battle ready! The Battles takes palce at the epic one-night cook off August 12th where 2,000 guests will be able to sample burgers from competitors and place their one vote for the best burger in Boston. At the end of the night, the winner of the hard-fought battle is awarded the trophy, a profile in Boston magazine, and will be invited to a national burger competition in 2016 hosted in Miami.
Q. Can I purchase bundled event tickets for the two night Cookout? Or do I have to buy separate tickets for each night?
A. Tickets are available for each night separately (night 1: The CUE, night 2: Battle of the Burger), but can also be bought as a bundle for the two night Cookout event. Tickets are currently not on sale, but check back soon for updates!
Q. Are there any ticket giveaways?
A. Every time you vote for your favorite burger for Battle of the Burger. through July 7, you are entered to win a pair of tickets to the event. The same goes for The Cue, every time you vote for your favorite cocktail for The Cue, through July 7, you are entered to win a pair of tickets to the event.
Q. How can I get to the events?
A. The Black Falcon Cruise Terminal in South Boston is accessible through public transportation and by car. For train transportation, take the SL2 Silver Line towards Boston Marine Industrial Park to Dry Dock Avenue at the Design Center Place stop. There is public parking at a garage located across Dry Dock Ave.
