Kaplan Thompson Architects
Kaplan Thompson Architects is considered a national leader in green design and building science. The firm, whose mission is Beautiful-Sustainable-Attainable, has overseen the completion of over 40 net-zero or net-zero-ready homes in the last ten years. They have received numerous accolades for their work, including the USGBC’s LEED for Homes Innovative Project Award and Single Family Home of the year in 2014, Treehugger.com’s Home of the Year, 5 Maine and New England AIA Awards, and, Fine Homebuilding’s Best Energy-Smart Home of 2013. Their projects have appeared in The New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, NPR and on HGTV and France 24, and numerous design and construction publications.
Kaplan Thompson Architects, a nationally recognized architecture firm based in Portland, Maine, launched its net-zero homes initiative, BrightBuilt Home, in June of 2013. Kaplan Thompson Architects developed BrightBuilt Home in an effort to reach a greater population of homebuyers interested in net-zero energy buildings. BrightBuilt Home offers nine net-zero, high-performance home designs that can be built for 30% less, on average, than today’s typical new stickbuilt homes, and, once occupied, require 50% less energy to operate. The homes can be built using modular strategies or with traditional site-built construction. All of the homes are capable of affordably achieving the loftiest goal in residential design: netting zero energy annually. Any of the designs can be customized, and fully-custom home designs are possible within the BrightBuilt Home system.
Since 1987, Keiser has set modular construction standards in craftsmanship, customer service, and innovation. Every Keiser module is crafted in the climate controlled Oxford, Maine, facility, free from the elements inherent to site built construction. Their buildings utilize the same, or superior, materials as would site built construction, follow a schedule unaffected by weather or subcontractor delays, and undergo rigorous review by Keiser and third party inspectors.
As green building has evolved, Keiser has led the industry in energy efficient and sustainable options. Keiser is an Energy Star Partner, has built a LEED registered home and has made certain best practices (i.e. low VOC paints, cellulose ceiling insulation and advanced air sealing techniques) standard throughout their product line.
