The South End’s Harrison Street recently opened Rocca, which has a rare and precious selling points: reasonable prices and free parking. To be able to park one’s car without valet fees and eat well for less than $50 is far too rare in this city. The subject of this restaurant review by Corby Kummer, is the newest venture of Michaela Larson and her partners Garry Sullivan and Karen Haskell, who brought us Rialto, blu, and Noir. The restaurant highlights the food of Liguria (the Italian Riviera), which is rich in olive oil and pesto. Corby loved the white bean minestrone with crostini and pesto; the poached marinated sardines with radishes and mint; and the malfadina alla genovese, a homemade pasta dish with, you guessed it, pesto sauce (Corby called the sauce “vivid” and “gemlike”). For dessert, don’t miss the pacciugo di Portofino, a gelato and sorbet sundae. -Amy Traverso
