Expansion Team

Boston restaurant all-stars plant a flag in the 'burbs.

The team behind Mistral, Mooo, Sorellina, and Teatro has developed a no-fail formula for urban restaurants: sharp design, Mediterranean food, and the Midas touch of chef-owner Jamie Mammano. Now it’s branched out into the suburbs, opening L’Andana in Burlington, the suddenly lively foodie destination formerly known as a mall town. The atmosphere takes its cues from Mistral with minimalist lines, low lighting, and a whisper of club music (there’s even the familiar army of attractive women at the door), while the Tuscan-inspired menu hews to Sorellina’s model. Especially good were the fonduta—melted cheese on grilled bread—and the maccheroncelli with Wagyu meatballs. Misses, like the overcooked cod, are tough to swallow when entrées run as high as $42. But then, impressive pedigrees don’t come cheap.
