Hunger Paeans

Edible Boston feeds local gourmands.

By Jane Black

In a world where the average ingredient travels as far as 2,500 miles to reach your plate, eating locally has become a foodie obsession. But finding local products in New England often isn’t easy or even possible. Thank goodness then for Edible Boston, a new quarterly magazine highlighting local foods and local purveyors, and published by Irene Bezahler, a partner of Edible Communities, which sponsors 15 other newsletters across the country (including one on Cape Cod). This month’s debut issue recounts an adventure foraging for wild foods in Essex County, spotlights local tomato growers, and profiles Azuluna Brands, a Tufts University program that helps local farms expand their revenue base while providing wholesome, natural eggs and veal.
