Night Lines: The Women Premiere

1221066161Set in New York but filmed right here in Boston, The Women made its local debut on Monday night at AMC Loews Boston Common theater. The remake of the 1930s film stars Dove, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Lexus. (Secondary players include Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Jada Pinkett Smith, Debra Messing, Cloris Leachman, Carrie Fisher, Debi Mazar, Candice Bergen, Bette Midler, and Eva Mendes.)

Even more surprising was the number of scenesters that actually showed up on a Monday, during Gossip Girl—thank you Comcast gods for DVR!—for the screening and afterparty, which was held on the Liberty Hotel’s fifth floor balcony.

Attendees—most of whom were dressed to the nines—included the movie’s director Diane English; Liberty mega-developer Dick Friedman; Boston Fashion Week guru Jay Calderin; the Stuff@Night Twins (Mike Diskin and Erica Corsano); about 40 Saks employees; Greater Boston diva Emily Rooney; 28 Degrees owner Bill Emery; the Improper‘s Jonathan Soroff; former Globe gossip gal Carol Beggy; and a boy we’d met a couple of times before named Sam Berger.

Oh, and just about every PR pro in town: Gordon Lower’s Anne Lower and Alicia Gordon; Marlo Marketing’s Marlo Fogelman; Regan’s Max Buccini (with an impish date on his arm); Moxie’s Jo Swani, Regan Dillon, and Sophie Zunz; and Kortenhaus’s Kerri Landry.

While none of The Women‘s flesh and blood stars showed up at the event, the pay-for-play ones did: Party favors, distributed in Saks shopping bags, included Dove deodorant and face cleanser.

But a key to a shiny Lexus SUV? Not so much.
