All Dolled Up

Barbie stars in a new photography exhibit at the School of Fashion Design.

There’s an opening reception tonight for “Debbie’s Barbies,” an exhibit at the School of Fashion Design featuring everyone’s favorite plastic friend. When Debbie Klein found a trove of her aging Barbies — many dressed in fabulous ensembles sewed by her mother — in a storage unit, she and her friend, local shutterbug Joel Benjamin, decided to style and shoot them. (You can read Benjamin’s reflections about the process and project and see additional photos on his blog.)

Several designers (like SFD alumn Anthony Ferrara) have also created Barbie outfits that will be displayed alongside the photos and auctioned off to benefit the school’s scholarship fund.

The show runs through the end of the month.
