Hair Today: Two New Salons Now Open

Salon Capri settles in on Newbury Street; Lindsay Griffin lands in Somerville's Ball Square.

If your hair’s begging for a trim, here’s some good news: the Penna family has brought its popular suburban Salon Capri to Newbury Street, while wedding hair extraordinaire Lindsay Griffin — she created the preppy beach nuptials ‘do featured in the recent Boston Weddings — just opened a salon in Somerville’s Ball Square. Here’s a closer look at both spaces:

Architecture firm Studio 3.0 renovated and designed the 2,200-square-foot Newbury storefront now occupied by this suburban favorite. The Back Bay location, which features reclaimed wood accents and black-and-white stations, joins the family-owned chain’s other salons in Newton Highlands and Dedham’s Legacy Place. SalonCapri uses L’Oreal Professional products — pick some up in the retail section on your way out. 11 Newbury St., Boston, 617-236-0020, saloncapri.com

Lindsay Griffin opened her first salon earlier this month in Somerville’s up-and-coming Ball Square. The design of the entire 800-square-foot space was inspired by a mid-century modern chandelier that now hangs in the front window. Griffin’s husband Marcos, a wood worker, built some of the furniture — there’s also an antique vanity that serves as a coffee station and vintage stylist chairs. Stay tuned for girls’ nights and style and beauty classes for clients. 106 Bristol Rd., Somerville, 617-625-0001, lindsaygriffin.com
