Sinesia Karol’s talent for bathing-suit design is all in the family: The native Brazilian learned to cut and sew while watching her mother craft swimwear (and all of her family’s clothing as well). Raised just north of Rio de Janeiro, Karol was brought up in a vibrant community filled with art, music, and impressive architecture—all of which, she says, have inspired her interest in design. Now Karol, an alum of Boston’s School of Fashion Design, has her own chic collection featuring simple, sexy pieces like high-waisted bottoms paired with strappy bandeau tops, and one-pieces with seductive mesh-covered cutouts—an aesthetic she created by combining the more-revealing cuts of swimwear often seen in South America with a very New England emphasis on comfort and sophistication. There’s no doubt this fashion-forward designer’s season of choice is summer, so we asked her to share a few cool things for the dog days.
