Identical twins Alex and Mike Faherty aren’t from New England, although their eponymous line of classic wardrobe staples feel right at home in a Cape closet. So Boston is a logical choice for their latest retail shop, opening this Friday on Newbury Street. The new location, number six for the brothers, joins others in Soho and California.

The premium casualwear brand, which includes apparel for men and women, takes cues from the surf shops the twins frequented in the seaside town of their childhood and the fashion industry they discovered in NYC in their twenties. The boys moved from Spring Lake, New Jersey, to Manhattan when they were in high school, and it was here that the idea to someday have their own clothing brand took flight.

“Faherty embodies the beachy town where we grew up and the world of fashion that we found in NYC. It has an easy-going, laid-back vibe, but there is a serious focus on fabric and quality,” Alex says.

Mike attended fashion school and then went on to work for Ralph Lauren as a shirt designer. It’s no surprise, then, that button-up shirts are the brand’s largest category. Also big for Faherty is their swimwear, all of which is made from material derived from recycled plastic bottles.

Is this all ringing a bell? It may be because the twins opened a seasonal store in Nantucket last spring. Lucky for us, baja ponchos are now up for grabs any day of the year.

Faherty, located at 115 Newbury St., will open March 31 and will be open Monday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
