TUGG (Technology Underwriting the Greater Good), the nonprofit arm of Boston’s tech community that connects and engages New England’s tech entrepreneurs with social enterprises serving local under-resourced youth, hosted TUGG Makes Boston, their 11th Annual Wine and Tequila Party, on March 23, 2017 at The Innovation and Design Building. The party was attended by close to 2,000 entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and techies who came together to enjoy a great night for some amazing causes. $140,000 in grant funding was distributed to 6 innovative social enterprises, and the crowd voted for their two favorites in hopes that they would win the top $50,000 grants. The new nonprofit winner was MEDIA GIRLS, a program that shows girls and young women how to use social media to share their authentic selves, post positive content, develop their critical thinking, and take a stand on meaningful issues while learning marketing skills. The returning nonprofit winner was Resilient Coders, a digital design and development agency that teaches people in their teens and early twenties from low-income areas in Boston and Cambridge how to code.
