Most people take a vacation, return home and post a couple of #tbts to their Instagram. Chris Welles travelled to Kenya in 2007, came home and started a clothing line, the proceeds of which help protect the endangered rhino. American Rhino sells signature t-shirts, tote bags, and accessories, as well as safari pants and beach towels in kikoy, a cotton textile made in Kenya. By 2015, the brand had raised over $200,000 for Rhino Ark. This summer, Welles returned to Kenya to deliver the first grant, which bought uniforms, boots, sleeping bags and backpacks for the Masai Mara rangers for their gallant work protecting the rhinos.

The premium outwear brand that has warmed the shoulders of such celebrities as Madonna, Jake Gyllenhaal and Gigi Hadid makes its Boston debut in Copley. Launched in 1999 by college pals Eran Elfassy and Elisa Dahan, the Canadian brand marries fashion and function with jackets made from the finest materials and cut in flattering silhouettes. The brick and mortar behaves more like a traditional shoe store with only one size on display and the rest of the product tucked away in the back.

Sarah LaFleur used to love watching her mother get dressed in elegant clothing for work, but found no similar options available to her when she got a job in the financial industry. Miyako Nakamura designed for Zac Posen for seven years and always struggled to find a connection between the runway and the consumer. The two women joined forces and launched MM.LaFleur with the aim of providing beautifully designed pieces for busy female professionals. Although they want their clients to rely heavily on the stylists, there are three ways to shop the brand: a la carte on the website, signing up for a curated bento box that is shipped to you, and meeting with a stylist in the showroom.
