Another CrossFit Box Opens Near Boston
Brookline got its first CrossFit box in January with the opening of CrossFit Coolidge Corner (CFCC). CrossFit has more than 8,000 facilities nationwide, and 30 or so of them are located in Greater Boston. The new 4,100 sq. ft. facility is open seven days a week and offers eight daily WODs and a Reebok-branded apparel and gear retail store. While many CrossFit facilities are the same, head coach Brett Kokoruda says that this new box will stand out from the rest.
“CFCC is not just another CrossFit box. Our goal is to help a wide range of individuals enhance their overall strength development and athletic performance by emphasizing proper functional movement tailored to each specific member, regardless of their current fitness level,” Kokoruda says. “We focus on a prudent application of the CrossFit methodology along with cutting-edge sports performance corrective and mobility strategies. [We want to] help our members push past what they perceive as their own limitations, but never compromising good form or safety.”
The new location is owned by BodyScapes Fitness which was founded on the principal of a uniquely personal approach to physical fitness and high-touch training, according to founder, Rob Shapiro. In order to maintain the quality-to-coach ratio, all CFCC classes will be at a 1:10 ratio of coach to member (and if you’ve ever been to a 6:30 p.m. weekday WOD anywhere you know that’s very rare. I’ve seen more than a 1:25 ratio at various boxes).
“We first opened BodyScapes Fitness in Coolidge Corner because the neighborhood was in need of a community gym,” Shapiro says. “Many of our club managers and personal trainers have been following the CrossFit principles for years now and as soon as a large workout space became available on the first level of our building, we jumped on the opportunity to open an entire space dedicated exclusively to CrossFit training.”
