The new concept's Boston shop will be the first in the country.

It’s hard to miss the slew of blow dry only shops that have opened up (and shuttered) in the last 18 months in Greater Boston. While some people scoffed at what they thought was a passing fad, the industry keeps expanding. More national chains have arrived in our area, including Dry Bar, one of the original companies to start the trend, which recently opened in the Back Bay and Chestnut Hill. Not to mention Be Styled, another blow dry only salon, which opened in The Street, right across Route 9 from Dry Bar.

To meet demand or perhaps to one-up the ever-expanding blowout industry, Avanti Salon (20 Newbury St.; 617-267-4027) has even introduced a blowout delivery service. The service will provide a stylist and all the necessary tools to any location in the Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Financial District, or South End for $75.

Also one of the original companies on the scene is Blo, which opened its first local location in the South End in July 2012. The national franchise chain is opening a second location March 27 in the Seaport District (157 Seaport Boulevard; 617-426-0874). But what’s special about this new location is who the new neighbor will be: Blo is opening their first-ever beauty bar called, Body By Blo, which will be dedicated to nails and waxing. While the new beauty bar will open in other states in the coming months, Boston is the first city to get the new concept.

Fortunately, we are told that the beauty bar is separate from the blowout bar, so the sound of hairdryers won’t be messing up your supposed-to-be-relaxing pedicure.
