Ground Beef Sold at Two Mass. Whole Foods Stores Recalled
UPDATED 2:20 p.m.: In a statement, reps from Whole Foods say that the recall is an “abundance of caution.” Customers with recalled beef will get a full refund, and so far, there are no positive test results of E. coli in products sold in Whole Foods stores:
“The safety of products we sell and the health of our customers is our top priority. There have been no positive test results of product indicating the presence of E.coli 0157:H7 bacteria associated with the product sold at Whole Foods Market stores. Out of an abundance of caution, two locations are issuing a voluntary recall of all fresh ground beef sold at the Newton store at 916 Walnut Street on June 8 and June 10, 2014 and sold at the South Weymouth store at 35 Pleasant Street on June 21, 2014. This voluntary recall is to advise customers who may still have ground beef in their freezers to discard the product and bring their receipt to either of the two stores for a full refund.”

Whole Foods Market is recalling 368 pounds of ground beef that may be contaminated with E. coli from two Massachusetts stores. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, the beef was sold in the South Weymouth store and at the Newton location on Walnut Street.
All of the beef being recalled was sold June 8 to June 10. Although that is a couple of months ago now, officials are concerned that some of the beef may still be in people’s freezers.
The agency says that three people have reported E. coli symptoms between June 13 and June 25. An investigation found that all three ate beef from one of the two stores.
According to the Food Safety and Inspection Service, this is what’s being recalled:
