The Bar Method Is Opening a Downtown Location

The new spot will open in June.

Downtown Boston’s fitness revolution continues with the announcement that The Bar Method will open a financial district location this summer. The new studio will join a spate of newly-opened businesses downtown including Thirst Juice, Republic Fitness, a UFC gym, B/Spoke, and more.

This new location will be the fourth Bar Method in Massachusetts and the second in Boston. Current locations include Wellesley, Hingham, and the Back Bay.

The Bar Method’s founder, Burr Leonard, took her first barre class—the Lotte Berk Method—in NYC in 1981. The original method, which was created by Lotte Berk more then half a century ago, is based on a low-impact system of concentrated movements, focusing on dance, strength-training, orthopedic back exercises, and Hatha yoga. After falling in love with the technique, Leonard opened her own Lotte Berk Method Studio in Greenwich, Conn. in 1992. After opening a few more locations, she brought in a physical therapist to re-work the original exercises, thus creating The Bar Method. The first studio opened in San Francisco in 2001, two years before the introduction of Exhale Spa’s Core Fusion (whose co-creator also worked at a Lotte Berk Method studio), and five years before the barre movement would go mainstream and upscale with the opening of Physique 57 in NYC.

The new location is currently under construction at 75 Federal Street on the corner of Federal and Franklin, and should be open in June. For the current Back Bay location pricing and schedules, visit boston.barmethod.com.
