An Xtend Barre Location Will Open On Newbury Street This Fall

It's expected to open this September.

The Back Bay is already a barre lover’s paradise, and it’s about to get even better. Xtend Barre, an international chain offering the trendy ballet-based exercise, is coming to Newbury Street in September.

Started by former ballet dancer Andrea Rogers, Xtend has locations in 18 countries and 25 states—but, until now, Boston was left out. Franchise owner Amanda Cort, a lifelong dancer and fitness enthusiast, says an exact location can’t be disclosed until the lease is finalized, but that the studio will be on the Mass Ave. end of Newbury Street. That’s near Pure Barre, so it will be interesting to see how that shakes out.

Cort, who grew up in Weston, became a devoted Xtend fan while traveling and decided to open her own studio. “I was living abroad in Sydney, Australia, where I found the workout, and I decided that I wanted to bring it home to Boston,” she says. “I fell in love with it, and I thought that I should open one.”

Cort is still finalizing the class schedule for the new studio, but in addition to Xtend’s signature barre class, she says clients can also expect TRX, a bring-your-baby class, and possibly yoga on the schedule.

The Newbury Street area may already be crawling with barre studios, but Cort says Xtend is worth checking out for its diverse array of classes and its cardio-infused take on the exercise. “In addition to actual dance and ballet moves, the amount of cardio incorporated in the workout definitely sets us a part from the other barre workouts currently being offered in Boston,” she says.
