Pilates With Purpose, a philanthropic fitness series founded by Pilates instructor Hanneke Antonelli and attorney Kristen Scanlon, is celebrating its first birthday on Sept. 23.

The anniversary celebration will follow the same format as other Pilates With Purpose events: a 45-minute Pilates class taught by Antonelli, then a “mixing and mingling” event, with all proceeds from the evening benefitting a Boston-based charity. This time, that charity is the Shawn Thornton Foundation, an organization run by Bruins player Shawn Thornton that’s dedicated to Parkinson’s and cancer research. The after party will be held at Empire.

Since its founding last year, Pilates With Purpose has donated money to charities including the American Stroke Association, Autism Speaks, Cradles to Crayons, and more.

Sept. 23 starting at 6:30 p.m. The Public Green at Fan Pier, 1 Marina Park Drive. To sign up, visit eventbrite.
