After her first husband passed away, Susan, 57, says she tried online dating, then joined a hiking group. That’s how she met Kevin, 60. “Hiking was a strong common interest for both of us,” she says. “It was a nice way to meet someone without the pressure of online dating.”

Even though Jane, 69, had started her own hiking club, Meet, Move, and Mingle, she met Cliff, 62, at another group hiking adventure in New Hampshire over New Year’s. “We got married in a spot overlooking Mount Monadnock with all of our hiking buddies there,” Jane says.

Cindy, 68, and Mike, 61, also met on a hiking trip in New Hampshire. “I think hiking provides a casual environment,” Mike says. “It’s not the bar scene, it’s not the Internet. You’re doing something that you enjoy doing yourself, and if you happen to meet someone, it’s even better.”
