You may think that café you hit up for lunch every single week is healthy—but without peeking into its kitchen, it’s hard to know for sure.

Fear not, because the United States Healthful Food Council (USHFC) has done the peeking for you. As part of its Real25 program, the USHFC, a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization dedicated to reducing the prevalence of diet-related disease, analyzed 319 Boston restaurants to find the 25 healthiest and most sustainable of the bunch.

The winners were chosen based on metrics such as nutritional value, ingredient sourcing, amount of from-scratch cooking, and availability of food that meets dietary restrictions. Finalists were vetted by local dietitians, nutritionists, chefs, and food writers.

Without further ado, here, in no particular order, are its picks for the 25 healthiest restaurants in Boston:

  1. Sweetgreen
  2. Ufood Grill
  3. Boloco
  4. Myers & Chang
  5. Cocobeet
  6. Red Lentil
  7. Henrietta’s Table
  8. Walnut Grille
  9. B Good
  10. Life Alive
  11. Oleana
  12. Harvest
  13. Toro
  14. TW Food
  15. The Elephant Walk
  16. Craigie On Main
  17. Taranta
  18. True Bistro
  19. The Fireplace
  20. Freshii
  21. EVOO
  22. Ten Tables
  23. Daily Table
  24. Puritan & Company
  25. Clover

Don’t shoot the messenger, but here’s a friendly reminder that this list isn’t an excuse to go crazy. No ranking could make Craigie on Main’s famous burger or Boloco’s decadent Nutella milkshake healthy. It’s sad, but it’s true. Still, next time you’re in charge of deciding where to grab dinner, it can’t hurt to know you’ve got 25 good options on hand.
