This Is What Joe Andruzzi Eats for Breakfast

The former Patriots player survived cancer, and now helps others through treatment.

We don’t need to tell you that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. In this series, we’re asking some of Boston’s top doctors, fitness pros, and dietitians for a sneak peek into their kitchens, so we can see what’s on their breakfast table.

Joe Andruzzi

Claim to fame: You probably already know this name. Andruzzi is a former Patriots offensive guard, and a three-time Super Bowl champion. His football career ended in 2007, when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Burkitt’s lymphoma. Today, the Joe Andruzzi Foundation helps cancer patients and their families shoulder the emotional and financial burdens of treatment, and funds research.

What he ate: Four scrambled egg whites with tomatoes, an apple, and coffee with Stevia from Honey Dew Donuts.

Why he chose it: Andruzzi just underwent a major weight loss, and this breakfast strikes a good balance between calories and substance. I recently lost 60 pounds, and eating four egg whites for breakfast is a good way for me to fill up on protein early in the day to keep me fuller, longer—which helps keep the weight off,” he says. “Also, I’ve always been a coffee drinker, and a black Honey Dew Donuts coffee is my fuel of choice each morning.”

Andruzzi will return to Gillette Stadium on November 21 for his organization’s annual Gratitude Gala. Tickets can be purchased here.
