Free Fitness on the Esplanade this Summer
One of our favorite city parks will have free fitness classes this summer.
The most popular running/walking route in Boston will have free fitness events this summer. The “Healthy Fit and Fun” programming will take place this summer for the fourth year in a row. The exact event time and dates are not finalized yet, but here is what you can except. We will update as new information comes in:
The classes run from Wednesday July 10th through the end of August.
Monday: Marathon Sports Running Club run at the Esplanade
Tuesday: Healthworks Zumba at the Hatch Shell
Wednesday: Yoga at Fiedler Field
Thursday: Reebok Crossfit class at Fiedler Field
Friday: Athleta will host Pilates at Fiedler Field
The Esplanade was the dream of 19th century designers Charles Eliot and Arthur Shurcliff. In 2001, the Esplanade Association formed in order to preserve that dream. Since 2001, the Esplanade Association has funded more than $12 million worth of park improvements working in partnership with the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). Here is just some of the recent improvements that you may have noticed:
- Rebuilt the docks
- Extensive landscaping and tree pruning
- Renovated and reopened bathrooms
- Restored perennial beds
- Built new playgrounds
- Restored ball fields (with Hill House and The Red Sox Foundation)
- Installed water fountains and solar trash compactors
Also, on April 22nd, five Boston area non-profit organizations are joining forces for the first annual “Give 5 percent for Earth Day” in the Boston area. The five non-profits are the Charles River Conservancy, the Emerald Necklace Conservancy, the Esplanade Association, the Friends of the Public Garden, and the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy. To date, there are 30 confirmed retailers across the Boston area signed up and the non-profits are still actively looking for additional retailers to join. These retailers will donate five percent of the days profits to the non-profits. Here is who’s in so far:
Financial District/Downtown: BackDeck, The Chicken & Rice Guys, The Chubby Chickpea, Equal Exchange Café, Fajitas & ‘Ritas, Kickass Cupcakes, Mei Mei Street Kitchen, Momogoose, ShuckinTruck.
Back Bay / Beacon Hill: Beacon Hill Chocolates, Blackstone’s of Beacon Hill, Cheeseboy, Core de vie, Fire + Ice Grill + Bar, Gary Drug, Kitchenwares, LAZ Parking, NOA Gifts, Panificio Bistro Bakery, The Paramount, The Red Wagon, Townhouse Beauty Bar, Twentieth Century Ltd.

The funds raised on Earth Day will support capital improvements, ongoing maintenance, programming, and more in public parks that are owned by the City of Boston Parks and Recreation Department, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, the Town of Brookline Parks and Recreation Department, and MassDOT.
