Mayor Menino Offers Free Fitness Day for Teens
The Mayor's Youth Council will host the day of healthy living this Saturday.
If there’s anything better than a great workout it’s a free workout, and that’s just what the Mayor’s Youth Council, a group of Boston high school students who help develop youth-oriented programming for the city, will offer Boston teens this Saturday at the Madison Park Recreation Center.
From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., teens ages 13 to 19 will have the chance to participate in group fitness classes like Zumba, bootcamp, yoga, and capoeira (a Brazilian martial-arts-meets-dance workout) as part of the Free Fitness Challenge, which nicely complements similar events the city has hosted as part of Boston Moves for Health. In addition, there will be individual fitness assessments, rock climbing, prizes, educational opportunities, and healthy snacks. In a report from the mayor’s office, Mayor Menino says:
“It’s so important for teens to develop healthy habits and make time for physical activity,” Mayor Menino said. “Together with our Youth Council neighborhood representatives, we’re excited to offer Boston teens the opportunity to take advantage of this unique health fair experience.”
