Sweetgreen Open in Boston
The beloved, organic salad shop (and D.C. institution) finally opens its doors on Boylston.
Walking on Boylston Street over the past few months, you may have seen Sweetgreen’s signage in the old Ritz Camera space. Legions of obsessed fans have been waiting for this healthy spot to open and as of Wednesday, they finally get their wish. The organic salad shop was founded in D.C. and offers salads, grain bowls, frozen yogurt, and fresh pressed raw juice. According to the press release, the ingredients are sourced locally from small nearby farms and everything (everything!) is organic. Sweetgreen also takes sustainability seriously. Recycled materials like reclaimed wood and LED lights were used in the design concept, and they use compostable packaging. The new shop will also feature a 15-foot mural commissioned by a local Boston artist.
“From the very beginning, sweetgreen has always been all about its community – and we can’t imagine a better, stronger, more community-driven neighborhood than Boston,” said Nicolas Jammet, cofounder of Sweetgreen in a press release. “We are incredibly proud to be opening here, right in the heart of this great city, and look forward to sharing our take on delicious, healthy and locally sourced salads, juice and more with our new neighbors.”
The shop features a chalkboard that showcases the nearby farms and ingredients featured on the menu. The Boston menu will feature zucchini and yellow squash from Ward’s Berry Farm in the July salad of the month; chocolate peppermint from Eva’s Garden as a new frozen yogurt topping; and local peaches and ginger goat cheese from Ann Starbard of Crystal Brook Farm, a fixture of nearby Copley Square Farmers Market, in the August salad.
The events that happened just outside Sweetgreen’s new location on Marathon Monday was not lost on the company. So for their grand opening on Wednesday only, Sweetgreen is doing the “pay what you want” model until 4 p.m., with all proceeds benefiting The One Fund Boston.
