Boston Cycling Celebration Kicks Off This Weekend
The TD Mayor’s Cup and a car-free Storrow Drive celebrate the Boston cycling community.
On September 21st and 22nd, Boston will celebrate its growing cyclist community with the 9th annual Hub on Wheels city-wide ride, the 5th annual TD Bank Mayor’s Cup Bicycle Race, and the Boloco Block Party.
All of the events are a part of the Boston Cycling Celebration weekend, which honors Mayor Tom Menino’s Boston Bikes initiative encouraging residents to use bicycles for fun, for exercise, and for transportation.
To start off the celebration, professional cyclists from all over the world, including some Olympians, will come together on Saturday, September 21st to compete in the annual TD Bank Mayor’s Cup. Starting at noon and continuing on until 6 p.m., City Hall Plaza will be buzzing with spectators and participants as cyclists race around at top speed. There will be kid’s races earlier in the day and the all-day Boloco Block Party will be offering live entertainment, a beer garden, and family activities.
On Sunday, September 22nd, the city will be on two wheels. Registration is open to sign up for Hub on Wheels city-wide bike ride. With a car-free Storrow Drive, three routes of varying lengths to choose from, and proceeds going to charity, what’s not to love about this event? Technology Goes Home receives a portion of the proceeds from Hub on Wheels in order to continue providing technology, technological training, and internet to under-served Boston areas. All three Hub on Wheels routes begin and end at City Hall Plaza.
