Photos: Yoga at Fenway Park
Yogis took to the dirt for a good cause.
There was a different kind of bag check at Fenway Park this past Monday—yoga bags.
Yogis from all over took to foul ball territory behind home plate, along the baselines, and on the outfield warning track to raise money for charity while practicing yoga in what can only be described as the most scared ground in Boston.
The Red Sox Foundation hosted the first ever yoga classes at Fenway Park on September 23rd for two sessions (7 a.m. and 6 p.m.). Proceeds for the event, which was co-sponsored by Equinox and New Balance, will go to Red Sox Scholars Program. The program provides college scholarships, tutoring, and mentoring to financially disadvantaged Boston public middle school students, and also sponsors the RBI Youth Baseball and Softball Program, which serves more than 2,000 inner city teens each summer using baseball to promote healthy life choices.
Participants were required to raise a minimum of $250 for the Red Sox Foundation.
While yogis had to stay on the dirt, they were given special mats to protect their own. But, hey, it’s Fenway dirt! Didn’t they sell the stuff as souvenirs years ago?
Classes we led by instructors from Equinox, like Omgal’s Rebecca Pacheco.
