Dancing for One Hour at Lunch Burns 230 Calories
DJ Questlove brought the house down at a one hour lunchtime dance party.
Fitness experts around the world always say to squeeze in as many minutes of exercise in a day that you can. And on Friday, hundreds of Boston residents spent their lunch break dancing. According to Self magazine, you can burn around 230 calories in 50 minutes of moderate dancing. According to my JawboneUp, I burned 223 calories.
As part of the Absolut Lunch Break series presented by Flavorpill, an online culture guide, Questlove of The Roots spent one hour behind the turntables at Estate spinning classic dance and hip hop that covered at least four or five decades of music, from the Jackson Five to Kanye West. A crowd filled with glow sticks and neon props were all there to hear Questlove spin, but also to raise money for the Greater Boston Food Bank. The free event is called a “party with a purpose” and you even left with free lunch. (A PB & J, probably as an homage to another Flavorpill Lunch Break DJ, Peanut Butter Wolf.)
Sascha Lewis, CEO & Co-founder of Flavorpill told Boston’s Steve Annear how Questlove got onboard:
Questlove jumped at the opportunity to come to the city, despite a packed schedule that includes trips between Chicago and New York City, to tape segments for Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. “We stalked Quest for awhile about playing it. He is a busy, busy guy. The show he is doing in Boston with us, he is taking the train that morning from New York after taping Fallon Thursday night, playing the party at lunchtime, and then jumping a plane to Chicago that night. That’s kind of like his normal schedule— he’s a luminary, he loves to be involved in culture and participate in things he is passionate about,” said Lewis.
