Event Brings Summer to Dewey Square—In February
You’ll get free tomatoes and a healthy lunch for $5.
While we anxiously await the Polar Vortex Part III, there’s an opportunity to experience summer–on Tuesday. From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Dewey Square will be turned into a “summertime oasis” complete with turf, heat lamps, picnic tables, and fresh tomatoes. Lots of fresh tomatoes.
It’s a promotion where all proceeds benefit the Greater Boston Food Bank and for just $5, you’ll get a soup and sandwich lunch created by Clover Food Lab. Boxes of cocktail tomatoes from Maine’s Backyard Farms (New England’s largest producer of premium tomatoes) will be distributed for free to the first 100 people who buy lunch or make a donation.
Following a tomato-rich Mediterranean diet—supplemented with extra virgin olive oil or mixed nuts—was shown to lower the risk of major cardiovascular events (including heart attack and stroke) by 30 percent, according to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
For a cheap, healthy lunch (plus the opportunity to get some free tomatoes) this is definitely an event worth checking out.
