The Biggest Loser Is Casting Near Boston Again
Want to be on television? Want to lose a ridiculous amount of weight? Here's your chance.
NBC‚Äôs reality series ‚ÄúThe Biggest Loser‚ÄĚ is casting for Season 16, and so¬†producers¬†are launching a seven-city cross-country¬†search to find new contestants. The cities are Los Angeles, Boston, Birmingham, Charlotte, Chicago, Oklahoma City, and Salt Lake City. Producers are looking for, “individuals, families, and former athletes who have at least 100 pounds to lose.” Technically, casting is not in Boston as advertised, it’s up in Revere, but close enough.¬†
One hundred pounds is a lot to lose, and without the help of surgery or another extreme method, it can also be a daunting task. Last season’s winner got all kinds of flack for losing “too much” weight, which is almost laughable. It’s reality show! About extreme weight loss! None of it is healthy or realistic. It’s not real life, people! But that still didn’t stop the haters. Here’s a random sampling:
1. A Big Reveal Touches a Nerve (New York Times)
Bob and Jillian (no last names needed), two of the most famous trainers in the world, both reacted as you’d expect when you see a 155-pound weight loss. A sneer from Bob, and OMG from Jillian, and a fake slow clap from both:
Producers tell me that they are looking for “charismatic individuals who have the desire to change their lives forever and vie for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to lose weight and compete for a grand prize of $250,000.” If you’ve ever seen the show before, then you know that a good story will only help in your chances to be selected for the program. Most contestants, in addition to having more than 100 pounds to lose, also have some sort of backstory that will resonate with viewers.
Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and legal residents of the United States. For those who are unable to attend a casting call, information on how to apply to the show and submit a videotape is available on nbc.com/casting#bl16 and thebiggestlosercasting.com.
Planet Fitness in Revere will be hosting the casting calls for the second year in a row on April 12.
Arrive early, but not too early. Candidates will only be allowed to get in line three hours before the start of the open call. Hopefuls should also bring a non-returnable photo of themselves.
April 12; Planet Fitness; 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Northgate Shopping Center, 270 Charger Street, Rt. 60/Squire Road (next to CVS)
