Boston Begins Its Annual Free Fitness Bonanza
Zumba, yoga, bootcamp, and more are held at various locations throughout the city all summer long. The best part? It’s all free!
The City of Boston will once again have a plethora of free fitness classes this summer. City officials announced that its free fitness classes will return Monday, June 2, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Christopher Columbus Park in the North End. The first class (a 30-minute Zumba class and then a 30-minute boot camp session) will officially launch the Boston Parks Summer Fitness Series. See, even city officials know it’s important to mix it up.
The free classes will last for three months, and will be held at a variety of locations throughout the city, including Symphony Park, Hynes Playground, Brighton Commons, and many more.
“We know that maintaining a healthy weight and being active is so important for overall health, but we also know how tough that can be to achieve,” says Barbara Ferrer, executive director of the Boston Public Health Commission. “We hope that the Boston Parks Summer Fitness Series can be a fun and interactive way to help people stay on track to meet their health goals by providing free fitness opportunities in the very neighborhoods where our residents live, work, and play.”
Other classes scheduled take place this summer include boot camp, line dancing, tai chi, yoga, Zumba, and salsa dancing.
These free classes are in addition to the already announced free classes at Post Office Square, on the patio at Sterling’s Restaurant, and at the Harbor Islands. Boston truly is the free fitness capital of the world.
