10 Healthy Restaurants Opening in Boston
Five eateries are expanding or setting up shop for the first time.
For many of us, eating better is a perpetual New Year’s Resolution—but whether it actually happens is another story. A slew of soon-to-open healthy restaurants, however, may make keeping this year’s vow that much easier. From an artisan oatmeal café to two more Dig Inn locations, get excited for these healthy restaurants coming to Boston in 2017.
What it is: An all-vegan fast casual joint serving up salads, grain bowls, “burgers,” sandwiches, pasta, brunch, juice, and more. It’s currently got locations in New York and Los Angeles, but expect an exclusive Boston menu when it hits Massachusetts.
Where it’s heading: The chain is starting off strong with two Boston locations. It’ll be in the Seaport, at 101 Seaport Boulevard, and the Fenway, at 100 Van Ness Street.
When to expect them: The Seaport shop is slated to open in February or March. Fenway will hopefully follow in April.
What it is: A fast casual restaurant offering build-your-own salads and grain bowls, plus breakfast, beer, and wine. It became an immediate local favorite when its first non-New York location opened on Boylston Street this past summer.
Where it’s heading: Lunchtime upgrades are coming to Downtown Crossing, at 277 Washington Street, and the Prudential Center.
When to expect them: Exact opening dates are TBA, but both should arrive in the first half of 2017.
What it is: A popular juice bar offering juice (duh), smoothies, salads, soups, snacks, and more. The chain has plenty of locations in the Tri-State Area, as well as shops in Chestnut Hill and the Back Bay.
Where it’s heading: Juice Press is adding two Seaport locations. One will be near the upcoming Seaport SoulCycle, and the other will be inside the future Seaport Equinox.
When to expect them: TBA.
What it is: Boston’s first oatmeal café, serving up customizable, artisanal oatmeal bowls. At its summer pop-up shop, it offered zany flavors like apple pie, peanut butter and jelly, and Sriracha fried egg.
Where it’s heading: Somerville’s Davis Square, at 22 College Avenue.
When to expect it: If all goes well, a grand opening is slated for mid-January.
What it is: A juice bar offering juices, smoothies, bowls, and (non-alcoholic) shots. It’s already got a handful of Boston locations.
Where it’s heading: Squeeze is opening new shops in South Station and the upcoming FitRow development at Assembly Row. It’s also adding a North Shore outpost in Beverly.
When to expect them: Beverly should open in February; FitRow in April; and South Station in June.
Honorable Mention: Cocobeet
What it is: A popular local juice bar and plant-based café located at City Hall Plaza.
Where it’s heading: Cocobeet is expanding to the ‘burbs, with a shop in the works in Wellesley.
When to expect it: Construction began in May, but the juicery hit a few roadblocks. It should open its doors at some point in December 2016.
