Six Local Yoga Classes for Runners
Give your muscles some TLC at these local classes for athletes.
If there are two things Boston has in spades, they’re runners and yoga studios—and luckily, the latter complements the former pretty perfectly.
If you’re a runner or athlete, yoga can help stretch your aching muscles while simultaneously building strength, increasing range of motion, and giving you the mental clarity you need to reach the next level of physical performance. Interested? Here’s where to take yoga for runners in Boston:
Wellness in Motion: What’s better than a yoga class for runners? A yoga studio for runners. This one offers two flows for athletes each day, as well as a rotating schedule of workshops. Operations are overseen by Amanda Nurse, an elite marathoner (her PR is a blistering 2:40) who competed in the Olympic marathon team trials in 2016.
$15 per class, various days and times. Wellness in Motion, Old City Hall, 45 School St., Boston, wellnessinmotionboston.com.
Adidas RunBase: More than just a store, Adidas’ Boylston outpost offers plenty of great programming for runners. On Sundays, for example, you can take free yoga classes that stretch and strengthen the muscles that take a beating during runs.
Free, Sundays, 6:30 p.m. Adidas RunBase, 855 Boylston St., Boston, adidasrunbase.com.
Artemis Yoga: Runners, cyclists, and other athletes are invited to join this twice-weekly lower-body-focused class at Artemis Yoga. Your muscles will get a workout while your mind winds down.
$17 per class, Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:45 p.m. Artemis Yoga, 639 Mount Auburn St., Watertown, artemisyoga.com.
Coolidge Corner Yoga: Each Monday night, instructor Amanda Nurse (see her credentials above) leads a yoga for athletes class focused on improving strength, flexibility, range of motion, and mental toughness.
$16 per class, Mondays, 8 p.m. Coolidge Corner Yoga, 1297 Beacon St., Brookline, coolidgeyoga.com.
JP Centre Yoga: This weekly class pays extra attention to the hips and hamstrings, two trouble spots for regular runners. It’s led by Cara Gilman, an avid yogi and runner herself.
$16 per class, Sundays, 12:45 p.m. JP Centre Yoga, 670 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, jpcentreyoga.com.
Marathon Sports: Look for (free!) monthly yoga for runners classes at Marathon Sports’ Norwell and Plymouth locations, as well as one-off classes at its other stores. Get all the details on Eventbrite.
