Our wedding invitation was 6x9 and was a gate fold design that held all of the information about our Cape Cod wedding. Inserts included: an invitation to a welcome party at my grandparents' home, directions, and accommodation information. The outside was embellished by a custom seal and satin ribbon.

We used a cute little invite to send out to our guest on designed paper. We included brochures, and an informative letter about the area as well. This went out a year in advance. The cost was less than 50 cents an invite got most of my stuff donated by my travel agent.
Then 4 months out we sent (homemade) formal invites, but to only the people that were coming on the cruise and close family and friends. The cost was about $30 for everything for the formal invites (saved money with a smaller list).

Start the invitation off with a short, cute, catchy poem/song that relates to the theme of your wedding.

Our wedding was a "destination" wedding. I say it that way because everybody had to travel but it wasn't to a sandy beach. We had a lot of information to get to our guests so we sent with a fold out with a pocket that held RSVP, reception card, and directions/accomadations.

To keep costs down since we were inviting 400 people and needed 200 invites, I bought the print your wedding invite kits and added ribbon to them. They looked like a paid a lot of money for them and I was able to complete all of my invites for around $100.

Create a custom look by layering papers within the formal embossed frame. Once a shape is cut out, tear the edges. Use transparant or textured paper to add elegance and delicacy.

Put in dried flowers in the envelope- it makes the invites smell nice and also adds a nice touch. Use the same flowers that you will have at the wedding to maintain consistency.

I went online to the post office website. They offer postcards that you can submit text and photos for right online. The front is a photo of Barry, my fiance, and I and it says "Save the Date." The back is all the details with a photo of Mendocino (where we are getting married). The post office stamps the cards and sends them right out. It was so easy and they look great.
