Big Idea of the Month: Flying Cars

Goodbye open road, hello open sky.

Goodbye open road, hello open sky: A locally designed auto that transmogrifies into a plane is cleared for takeoff later this year. But no, not from MIT. The Transition Roadable Aircraft, built by Woburn-based Terrafugia (okay, with MIT-trained engineers), is a $279,000 car/plane hybrid that can go from your driveway to DC (via Logan’s runway) in under four hours. No TSA lines necessary.
