Massachusetts’ Top Porn Searches

A porn aggregator has a surprisingly interesting infographic.

Porn MD, a site that sounds maybe-sort-of academic but is in fact just a search engine for other porn websites, created a genuinely interesting infographic (mildly NSFW) displaying the top ten porn search terms by state and country. Porn MD not being a site we troll on the regular when looking for cool geo-tagged data, we admit this comes to our attention from the same place that most WTF-y things do these days: Buzzfeed.

You probably did not know you were interested in the slight differences in porn preferences the people of your region might have with those of other states and nations. But now that you’re curious, you might be interested to find that the results often make sense in some strange way. The top search in Massachusetts, for instance, is for “college,” higher education apparently never far from our minds. The United States as a whole, has some fairly unshocking preferences in their porn searches, and while their place in the rankings might change, the same categories come up often in state after state.

The real story is in the international searches, because once you open it up to the rest of the world, well … things start to get a little weird. Porn MD doesn’t describe the data set they used, and presumably the global searches don’t have as many English language data points from which to choose, meaning the top searches might not be statistically significant or anything. Even so, Buzzfeed noted some of the most bizarre ones. Romania’s top search is “mom and son” which … ugh, what? Iran is disproving its president’s assertion that there are no gay people in its borders with a lot of gay-themed searches. Syria’s top search is for “aunt” … And actually, with that, we’re done. We can take no more. Some things are better left unexplored, Syria.
