Rob Consalvo Makes the Mayoral Run Official

The Hyde Park city councilor announced his candidacy Thursday.

Rob Consalvo, the District 5 city councilor from Hyde Park, announced his (non-shocking) candidacy for mayor of Boston Thursday. A press release quotes him saying:

I am running for Mayor because I love the City of Boston and I am prepared and ready to serve all of our neighborhoods. I have a proven record of innovation, leadership, compassion, and a strong commitment to public service.

A longtime friend and neighbor of Mayor Tom Menino, Consalvo was once rumored to be Menino’s pick for a successor. So far, Menino has said he’ll stay out of the race entirely, but it still makes Consalvo, “the obvious choice if Boston is looking for another hard-working Italian-American from Hyde Park with underestimated political skills,” in the words of mayoral race handicapper David Bernstein. Of course, who knows if we are. In the meantime, Consalvo joins an ever-more crowded field, with several candidates jumping in this week.
