Dorchester Church Will Hold a Mass to Mark Martin Richard’s 9th Birthday

The Richard family gave an update on their daughter's recovery.

The Richard family, whose son Martin died in the Boston Marathon bombing, offered an update on their 7-year-old daughter’s recovery from her own grave injuries in a post on their website Thursday. The family also announced that St. Ann Church in Dorchester will offer a Mass in Martin’s memory on Sunday June 9 at 10:30 a.m., which would have been his 9th birthday.

Jane Richard underwent 12 surgeries to address the injuries she sustained in the explosion that killed her brother and left her without her left leg below the knee. After 39 days in the ICU, Jane was transferred from Boston Children’s Hospital to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, the family wrote in their update.

“While we remain devastated over Martin’s death and all that has happened to us, Jane’s determination for getting better is an inspiring source of strength for the entire family,” their statement says.

Their statement and further updates can be found on their site.
