Citizens Disconnect: What Is This, Southie?

A weekly roundup of our favorite complaints made on the city's Citizens Connect app.

With the Citizens Connect app and website, Boston allows its residents to take a picture of a problem and send it to the city along with their precise location. The site is filled with complaints about trash on the sidewalk, potholes, and dead trees. It also contains the occasional oddity. Welcome to “Citizens Disconnect,” the series wherein we round up our favorite few from the past week:

Where Are We, Southie?

CD1

Concerned Citizen: “Where are we, Southie? Who parks in the wrong direction and thinks it’s ok?”

City Response: “Closed. Case Resolved. Vehicle ticketed.”

Southie: Basically Boston’s Wild West, a land of lawlessness and parking willy-nilly.

Irony Alert

CD2

Concerned Citizen: “just watched this guy throw his cigarette our onto the ground… Which is ironic because he’s on ‘litter patrol.’

City Response: “Case Resolved. I mark mooers [of DPW] spoke to the gentleman about this situation and he admitted it was wrong and said will never do it again.”

And an important lesson in practicing what you preach was learned by all.

Good Point Award

CD3

Concerned citizen: “Just a garbage explosion from the pigs at 110.”

We don’t know the pigs at 110, and we see a good many complaints each week about neighbors putting trash out early or late or whatever, but yeah … this one wins. That’s insane.

Not the Smartest Detour

CD4

Concerned Citizen: “Suddenly with the changes in the parking all these trucks are coming through here and not being able to make the turn. a. Why all the trucks all of a sudden. 5 or more a day. and b. What are you all going to do with that ? Obviously it’s an issue.”

City Response: “Case Resolved. Our engineers looked at this location and found that bwsc had closed some roadways and forced trucks into this area because of there street closures. we have made bwsc now maintain these roadways during construction.”

Oops, forcing trucks into areas through which they can’t pass does indeed seem like a problem.
