Citizens Disconnect: OMG It Snowed

The weekly roundup of our favorite requests for city services.

With the Citizens Connect app and website, Boston allows its residents to take a picture of a problem and send it to the city along with their precise location. The site is filled with complaints about trash on the sidewalk, potholes, and dead trees. It also contains the occasional oddity. Welcome to “Citizens Disconnect,” the series wherein we round up our favorite few from the past week:

Let’s Start Here

CD1

Concerned Citizen: “Street needs a plow. Now!”

Boston had a minor snowstorm that involved a heavy snowfall followed by a freezing rain. This angered many, many people. We pick this request for street plowing instead of one of the other sixty billion only because it is particularly terse and impolite.

Stating the Obvious

CD2

Concerned Citizen: “And so it begins. Marking spots like a bunch of animals.”

Well, no duh. It’s a snowstorm.

Some People Had Enough

Concerned Citizen: “Can the city make some public announcements telling people it is their legal responsibility to shovel sidewalks in front of their houses? There is too much of this and people will be complaining all winter on this site – maybe just do a mass announcement. It is so icy out there for us walkers and they need to know they will be fined or used should they not be responsible.”

We’re sure the Citizens Connect people do not need to be told that there are too many snow plow complaints.

Good Point Award

CD3

Concerned Citizen: “A memorial gravestone for a person who died at this street corner got uplifted by a plow.

City response: “Closed. Case Referred to External Agency. Mass dot jurisdiction. details forwarded.”

Yeah… yikes.
