You Can Now Watch the July 3 Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular Online
For the first-time in the event’s 41-year history, organizers of the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular are giving spectators a chance to sit back and watch the festivities from their electronic devices.
Since the entire holiday had to be moved up a day due to the impending hurricane that’s barreling toward the New England area, organizers of the annual July 4 activities decided it would be a good time to offer those who might not be able to make it to the Esplanade a little something extra.
The Boston Pops concert and fireworks show will be broadcast in its entirety online, starting at 8 p.m. on July 3. The live-stream, sponsored by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism, is meant to “bring the event to a worldwide audience.”
Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra will be joined by The Beach Boys, Megan Hilty, and the Boston Children’s Chorus for the concert portion of the evening. Governor Deval Patrick will narrate a newly commissioned Boston Pops arrangement of The Star-Spangled Banner in honor of the national anthems 200th anniversary. These events will be followed by the annual fireworks display on the Charles River.
As usual, the celebration will be broadcast live on television, but by adding a live-stream of the events, people traveling during the holiday will be free to catch the fireworks and concert from their iPad, smartphones, or computers. The webcast will also be available for 24-hours after the festivities come to an end in Boston.
