The Boston Police Department’s newest member finally has a name.

The 10-week-old Belgian Shepherd puppy that just joined the department’s K-9 unit will now be known as Viggo. The puppy will be in the care of the BPD’s head dog trainer Troy Caisey.

An online naming contest organized by the department received over 20,000 submissions before being whittled down to just ten.

The other choices were:

  • Cannon
  • Clink
  • Hero
  • Kevlar
  • Kojack
  • Tango
  • Titus
  • Rocco
  • Tuuka

Viggo will specialize in explosive ordnance detection and general patrol as a member of the K-9 unit.

The dog’s new name puts it in the ranks of other famous Viggos, like actor Viggo Mortensen and Vigo from Ghostbusters 2.
