Here Are the Top Five Dog Breeds in Boston

The Hub loves Labs. Who doesn't?

For the 25th consecutive year, the Labrador Retriever is the most popular dog in America. Consummate patriots we are, Boston loves Labs, too.

The Labrador Retriever was named the most popular dog in the Hub, according to 2015 American Kennel Club registration data, followed by the Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, Yorkshire Terrier, and French Bulldog.

“The versatile, lovable Lab has firmly planted its paw print in AKC’s history,” vice president Gina DiNardo said in a release. “But keep your eye on the French Bulldog. The Frenchie has risen 32 spots over the past decade and shows no signs of stopping.” Duly noted.

Officially recognized by the AKC in 1917, Labs are great family dogs. Active, friendly, and outgoing, they’re smart too, making them prime candidates for disabled-assistance and therapy work.

The Labrador Retriever is also the most popular dog in Hartford, previously named the worst state capital in America. Providence, on the other hand, is partial to the Golden Retriever.
