World’s Best Halloween Dad Lets 3-Year-Old Trick-or-Treat on an Airplane

This dad's heartwarming mid-air gesture means he wins the holiday, and possibly the year.

To the anonymous Halloween dad who made sure his 3-year-old daughter could trick-or-treat last night, even though she was on a flight with him from Boston to San Francisco: Congratulations, sir. You are a good dad.

The world now knows this, thanks to Stephanie Kahan, whose tweet about the heartwarming mid-air display of fatherly love has gone viral over the last 12 hours.

“OMG, my heart is exploding right now. Dad of the year just passed out candy to everyone on the flight so his 3 year old could trick or treat,” she wrote. Her message has been retweeted more than 60,000 times.

The dad, who according to Kahan has asked that he not be identified, handed out the treats with a message on them:

My three-year-old daughter, Molly, was bummed that she wouldn’t be able to go trick-or-treating this year due to this flight… so I decided to bring trick-or-treating to her. If you are willing, when my little donut comes down the aisle, please drop this in her basket. You’ll be making her Halloween! If you’re unwilling, no worries, just pass the treat back to me. Thanks so much!

The “donut” then apparently made her way down the aisles collecting candy from passengers, her Halloween wish fulfilled.

Kahan, meanwhile, says the dad knows all about how the story is resonating around the world.

“He was shocked at how much attention my post had received,” she tells the Globe this morning. “He said it was great to see that it made so many people happy, and funny that his daughter was blissfully unaware.”
