New Year, New Art: Exhibit Openings in January
Check out art exhibits with works influenced by African, Haitian, Persian, South Korean, and American cultures.

While another spring season of art exhibitions in Boston approaches, satisfy your winter craving for new works by checking out the following openings this month at some the city‚Äôs top galleries.
Lo√Įs Mailou Jones
New at the MFA this month is Lo√Įs Mailou Jones‚Äôs paintings and drawings to be displayed in Gallery 231. The exhibition features 30 of her works spanning various points in her career, showing her inspiration stemming from Haitian and African cultures, her time as a teacher at Howard University, and her travels elsewhere. As part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Open House, there will be a 15-minute Spotlight Talk on Jones‚Äôs exhibition.

Multiple Mourning Room: Mirrored
Artist Haegue Yang, of South Korea, working together with graphic designer Manuel Raeder, will revive the popular Sandra and Gerald Fineberg Art Wall at the ICA with their installation titled “Multiple Mourning Room: Mirrored.” The works are expected to be on display until February 2014.

Norma Jean Calderwood Islamic Art Collection
The Norma Jean Calderwood Islamic Art Collection at Harvard‚Äôs Arthur M. Sackler Museum will present 150 breathtaking objects of Persian influence including glazed ceramics, medieval poem manuscripts, and early modern lacquerware. Alongside the exhibition will be a catalogue of illustrations and essays written by scholars and conservation scientists.

Lesley Art Institute of Boston Graduate Exhibition
From now until Saturday, January 12, check out the works by 17 graduates of The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University‚Äôs Master of Fine Arts program. The exhibition will include a wide range of art forms such as paintings, sculptures, photography, video, and more. The pieces will be displayed in two locations: the Main Gallery at The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley in Boston and the University Hall Gallery in Cambridge.
