MBTA Transit Police Officer Dic Donohue had the honor of waving a giant flag before the Bruins game against the Penguins on Wednesday night in front of thousands of fans and supporters.

The officer’s wife, Kim, made the announcement about Donohue being picked to go out on the ice and wave a “Boston Strong” flag for fans before Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals at TD Garden.

“It has been a long [six] weeks with a lot of ups and downs, and it is finally time for Dic to have some fun and get out of a hospital setting, even if for only one night,” Donohue’s wife wrote on the Facebook page prior to the game. “I am so unbelievably proud of my husband and couldn’t be happier that he gets to show his true [Boston] pride! Sean, the first wave of that flag will be for you.”

This morning, she posted photos of her husband, who was injured in April’s shootout with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, along with the words “Boston Strong,” and nothing more.

The Bruins beat the Penguins in double overtime, putting them in a 3-0 lead in the series and one win away from competing for the Stanley Cup. Game 4 is set for Friday night at the Garden.
