Milan Lucic Wants to Play Seabass’ Son in the ‘Dumb and Dumber’ Sequel
Bobby Farrelly talked about the possibility of getting him on board now that the movie is going forward.
When it comes to casting burly bad guys in their comedy films, the Farrelly brothers like to keep it in the Bruins family.
With news that the sequel to “Dumb and Dumber” was finally going to move forward, after Jim Carrey decided to sign on to the project, Bobby Farrelly, half of the brotherly duo responsible for creating the epic comedy, announced they would be bringing back a key character from the original—Seabass.
In 1995, the Farrelly brothers cast then-Bruins player Cam Neely as the angry trucker-hat-wearing guy who spits in Jeff Daniels’ food at a rest stop diner. “When we wrote the original ‘Dumb and Dumber’ we thought, ‘we have got to find a Cam Neely type,’ [for the role], and we kept casting and casting. And then we said ‘why don’t we see if Cam will do it?’”
And he did. Since its debut almost two decades ago, the role became synonymous with the film, and now, another Bruins player wants a piece of the onscreen action.
In a video posted on the NHL’s website, taken during Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals at the TD Garden on Wednesday night, Farrelly told reporters that Lucic had approached him and asked that if they decide to throw Seabass’ son into the sequel, that he would want the role.
A life-long Bruins fan, Farrelly said he would have to ask his brother about the opportunity, but said it would probably work, and they might be able to make it happen. “We were talking to him about playing son of Seabass. They look alike, they are both from Vancouver,” said Farrelly. “[Lucic] said, ‘Listen, I heard you’re going to do a sequel to ‘Dumb and Dumber.’ I want to be son of Seabass.’ I looked at him and thought, ‘You know what? That’s not a bad idea.’ Because he looks a lot like Cam, plays a lot like Cam. I’ve got to convince my brother. We need to figure out a way to make it work.”
Universal Pictures recently announced they picked up the film from the Farrelly brothers, who are from the New England area. The sequel will take place 20 years after where the original left off, as “Lloyd” and “Harry,” played by Carrey and Daniels, respectively, try and locate one of their long lost kids for a kidney donation. Daniels told the Associated Press that the script to the sequel is “painfully funny.”
So, would Lucic be able to pull it off if they decide to write the character in?
