Jared Remy: Son of Red Sox Announcer Arrested For Waltham Murder
Police said that the suspect allegedly stabbed his fiancée multiple times on Thursday, killing her.
A day after Red Sox announcer Jerry Remy’s son, Jared, was arrested and charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Jen Martel, of Waltham, he released a statement on behalf of him and his wife. “The following link presents a statement of my wife’s and my feelings after this week’s tragedy,” he said on Twitter, linking to a personal note on the murder:
The son of iconic Boston Red Sox announcer Jerry Remy was arrested on Friday and charged with the murder of his fiancée outside of an apartment complex in Waltham, police said.
According to prosecutors from the Middlesex District Attorney’s office, Jared Remy, 34, was charged with the stabbing death of Jen Martel, just days after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting her, and later released by police on personal recognizance.
Police responded to Windsor Village in Waltham, on Stearns Hill Road, for a report of a stabbing around 9 p.m. on Thursday night, where they allegedly found Martel bleeding from multiple wounds on a patio at the rear of the apartment complex. The victim later died, officials said.
During a press conference on Friday, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said Remy would be arraigned in Waltham District Court in connection with 27-year-old Martel’s murder, and a list of other related charges, including assault and battery, and assault with a dangerous weapon.
Ryan told reports that Martel’s daughter was home at the time of the stabbing. She is now in the care of the Department of Children and Families.
According to reports, Remy had been arrested on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting Martel, but was later released by officials the following day.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As of Friday morning, the only statement from Remy’s father, Jerry, came in the form of a tweet from an unidentified source on the announcer’s official Twitter account:
It's John. It's difficult to comment after the news this AM. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Martel family.

The sports network NESN released a statement following Remy’s arraignment, where he was held without bail in connection with the murder, on behalf of both the station, and its affiliates:
This morning, we learned of a terrible tragedy. All of us at NESN and the Red Sox, along with Jerry Remy, are filled with grief for everyone involved, and we extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Jennifer Martel.
