Watch the Red Sox Paint the World Series Logo on the Field at Fenway Park
The entire city is getting ready for Wednesday night's game against the Cardinals.
The city is getting ready for the madness that will come with hosting the World Series matchup between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Red Sox, an event that is expected to pump millions of dollars into the local economy.
On Tuesday, city officials met to outline their plans for the series, including making residents and visitors aware of road restrictions and strict parking regulations, as well as increased security measures in, and round, Fenway Park.
Mayor Tom Menino urged people—including college students—to be on their best behavior as the Red Sox take on the Cardinals over the next few weeks, and asked that everyone show the same restraint and good-natured celebrating that was seen after the Sox clinched the American League Championship Series title against Detroit. “Let’s show the nation why we’re a first-class city,” the mayor said, flubbing on the name of the World Series trophy, and calling it a “cup.”
The World Series starts Wednesday night at Fenway Park, and rolls into Game 2 on Thursday night. There is a chance that Game 6 and Game 7 of the series—if necessary—could be played in Boston, too.  “Boston is the greatest sports city in America, and we are tremendously lucky and grateful to get to watch the Red Sox challenge for their third title in 10 years,” Menino said.
As Menino unveiled safety plans for Boston sports fans, the Red Sox were getting the field ready for the first game against the Cardinals.
In a video posted to their Twitter account on Tuesday, the Red Sox showed workers painting the World Series logo on the grass at Fenway Park.
“Who said watching paint dry is boring? We could watch this all day!,” they wrote.
