The Broncos Won’t Sell Out-of-State New England Fans Tickets To The AFC Championship Game

Tickets are only being sold to people with a local address.

Before you start jamming your trunk with luggage, or buying a plane ticket to begin your trip to Denver to try and catch the AFC Championship game between the Broncos and the Patriots, you might want to find someone with a Colorado address first.

According to the Broncos’ blog, out-of-staters won’t be able to get their hands on tickets to the Super-Bowl-deciding game. That is, of course, if they try to order them ahead of time.

Here’s why:

Tickets will be available only to those with a valid billing address in the Rocky Mountain region, including Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Montana, South Dakota and Western Kansas.

If you had plans to hop on Ticketmaster and snag a pair of seats before heading out West, start unpacking your bags.

The only options at this point seem to be either buying them on the black market, which could mean digging deeper into your pockets to come up with the cash, or if you’re fortunate enough, finding a friend in the Colorado area that can make the transaction for you. If you choose the latter, ticket prices range from $90 to $300 for reserved seats, and $300 to $600 for club seats. According to the blog, there is a limit of four tickets per household, too.

Fans from all over the football spectrum—hailing from as far as Texas and California—seemed perturbed by the announcement. “So…I am probably wasting too much time on [Ticketgate.com]. Seems that this is an NFL policy and I’ll bet it is an attempt to decrease scalping,” one person wrote.

It’s not just a Broncos thing, either. As noted by the ornery fan above who was trying to get some tickets, the Seattle Seahwaks have implemented a similar rule for their game against the San Francisco 49ers.

There’s always the resale market, and of course, Craigslist. But Craigslist can come with some serious risks. Just ask this guy, who thought he was going to see the Red Sox in the World Series in October.
